Engineer, Sr. Hardware
1. GENERAL SUMMARY:Performs a diversity of engineering design and development assignments. May assume project responsibility involving planning, scheduling, costs and coordinating the activities related to the development and completion of the project.
2. PRIMARY FUNCTION/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Conduct the preliminary analysis of design objectives to define optimum design criteria and operating characteristics of subassemblies and complete instruments.
b. Design reliable and easily manufactured electronic circuitry or mechanical subassemblies in accordance with design criteria and performance objectives.
c. Conduct functional and environmental tests of new designs or modified existing designs to evaluate circuit performance.
d. Responsible for cost effective design decisions.
e. Prepare proposals, personnel and cost estimates and work schedules to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
f. Direct or prepare documentation such as schematic diagrams, test procedures, theory of operation, purchased part lists, instruction manuals and related information.
g. Maintain current knowledge regarding new developments and trends in applicable engineering field.h. Coordinate activities with vendors and customers as required during course of assignment.
i. May assume overall project responsibility for specific design assignments, assuring that the project remains on schedule and within budget.
j. Perform other related duties as assigned.
3. JOB COMPLEXITY: Determines own practices and procedures and contributes to the development of new concepts with latitude for independent judgment. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Position provides new and varied work situations with a high degree of complexity such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard components or materials and recently developed technical concepts. Errors in judgment may adversely affect company earnings and image and create delays. May direct work activities of other engineers, drafters, and technicians. Interface with vendors, commercial test facilities and customers as well as immediate associates and other related departments.
4. SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS REQUIRED: Wide application of electrical engineering principles, theories and concepts of functional area requiring originality and ingenuity. Working knowledge of software design and basic coding techniques.
5. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with minimum of 5 years practical technical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in electronic instrumentation.
6. DOMAIN SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE: Hardware design for hand held test and measurement instruments. Typical products are microcontroller - based systems. Working knowledge of assembly language and C programming are a plus. |
