News] NIM going visible
"The race to build an exotic material with a negative refractive index for vis
ible light has been won by a team of researchers in Germany. The demonstration
could open the door to a new generation of optical devices such as superlense
s able to see details finer then the wavelength of visible light.
"It may also, ultimately, lead to further breakthroughs in "invisibility cloak
s" which could hide objects from the human eye."

According to their paper published in Opt. Lett. Vol. 32, NO.1, Jan. 1, 2007,
they have manufactured metamaterial shaped like "fishnet" exhibiting a refract
ive index of -0.6 at the wavelength 780nm ( 3.85e14 Hz ). |
