I have discovered a good way to learn English simply by watching
movies. The language in the movie is "real life", polished, natural, but
still explicit. It is difficult for me to select the best movies to
enhance my English. I find that it is better to watch a narrative type,
with a variety of subjects, such as travelling, science, and
animals. Usually the s cripts are narrated by well-known broadcasters. The
speed of the speech is normal. It is easy to listen to the beautiful
tones. Procurement of DVDs is very easy and inexpensive.
Many DVD movies are bilingual, with English subtitles. I try to
imitate the narrators, with tone and expression. It is not easy when you
begin, but don't become discouraged. You will find it much easier the
second time. You can notice even more improvement the third
time. Repetition will continue your becoming more relaxed in your command
of the new vocabulary. Soon you will be blurting out the words without
glancing at the subtitles. You are now mastering the narrator's tone,
their speed, and synchronizing your words withe the movie. What an easy
way to learn English, while enjoying various movies.
Rome was not built in one day. In fact anything worthwhile
requires dedication and perseverance. This will not only build your
vocabulary, learn sentence construction, and improve your comprehension.
As you progress, you can also progress to other types of
movies. This has really been a big help to me.
If possible converse with someone well versed in English. Ask
them to be candid with you, and to critique your progress with the English
language.
Please feel free to give me your experience with this system, both
positive or negative. Your feedback can be helpful to me.
