【简　介】:This paper is an overview of the IS-2000 CDMA system developed by the TIA TR-45.5 sub-committee
that has been accepted as a part of the ITU IMT-2000 international wireless communications system.
This paper seeks to outline some of the key aspects and technologies set forth in this standard. This
CDMA, direct sequence spread spectrum system is an advanced derivative of the TIA/EIA-95-B CDMA
system that is currently deployed around the world. The interim standard name for this system is IS-
2000. To provide a non-technical name for this system, the committee coined the name “cdma2000” to
denote this new system.
With the advent of international harmonization of IS-2000 and 3GPP WCDMA, the SR3 direct spread
mode has been absorbed into the 3GPP standard which is also a part of the IMT-2000 worldwide
standard. The remaining IS-2000 capabilities are outlined in this paper. One remaining change due to
harmonization is the requirement that IS-2000 operate on the MAP network used around the world to
support the GSM air interface (also used by 3GPP WCDMA).
