About 102,000 Disney-branded portable DVD players are being recalled because their batteries can overheat and possibly burst when recharging.
The U.S. Consumer Products and Safety Commission has announced a recall of about 102,000 Disney-branded portable DVD players. Batteries sold with the players can overheat and possibly burst when recharging, potentially leading to injury or damage. The commission has received 17 reports of batteries overheating, with three reports of minor skin irritation and three reports of damage to nearby property.
Consumers are advised to stop using the battery packs and contact the battery packs' distributor, Florida's Memcorp., Inc. for replacement. Memcorp can be reached at 800/326-0315, or via www.disneyelectronics.com.
The Disney-branded players were available from Disney stores and electronics retailers throughout the U.S., via Disney's product catalog, as well as at Disney theme parts. The units were sold from from April 2005 to March 2006 at prices ranging from about $70 to $130 under the following styles and model numbers:
Fairy Flowers — DP3500-FLR
Mickey Classic — DP3500-MC
Mickey Mouse — DP3500-MKY
Power Rangers — DP3500-POW
Princess — DP3500-PRN
The battery packs were manufactured by Mcnair Technology Co, Ltd., and Unitech Battery Ltd.; both are Chinese corporations. However, the battery packs were distributed by Florida's Memcorp Inc., which will also be handling replacements. |
