This test procedure evaluates the analog and digital outputs of a 5.1-channel DVD
player when operating in 5.1-channel and two-channel modes. Please complete the
5.1-channel and two-channel tests contained in this document. We recommend
completing the 5.1-channel evaluation before starting the two-channel evaluation. All
signals are from the Dolby Digital Test DVD v. 1.5 unless otherwise noted with an
asterisk (*).
In many cases the tests explained in this procedure appear very similar to those from
the separate two-channel-only procedure. While they may appear the same, there are
subtle differences between the tests in each procedure. Because these differences are
important we recommend completely reading each procedure before starting the test.
Each procedure includes a short description of the test, its test signals and the
materials required to complete testing. In some cases, examples of and typical results
are provided. Finally, if available, instructions for Audio Precision users are provided.
Note: While instructions for Audio Precision (AP) users are included, an Audio
Precision is not required to complete most of these tests. If an AP is not used,
just skip the discussion covering AP systems.
Provided at the end of this document is a test form for use with this test procedure.
The Test Results form provides convenient sections for recording the data measured
during each test. Please fill out this form during testing and send it to Dolby
Laboratories for review.
