[综合资料] GSM射频系统创新设计

Introduction
The commercial drive for low-cost, compact, and long battery life handsets, along with the requirements for multiband (for internetwork roaming), multislot EDGE (for higher data rates) functionality, has motivated significant advances in the GSM radio subsystem, including its antenna and IC constituents. In addition to technical performance margins against regulatory standards for high production yields and base station/mobile device link quality, key drivers in this RF technology evolution have mainly been: (1) low cost, (2) increasing levels of integration towards reduced component count and PCB area utilization, and (3) low power consumption.               
Given that the radio design, even in applications-rich or ‘smart’ terminals, largely contributes to the fundamental product requirements above, the RF subsystem architectures and partitioning have evolved in tandem to accommodate such commercial drivers. This article discusses recent advances on the GSM radio subsystem, especially with respect to the following:               
                                                                                Basic RF transceiver architecture and associated RF process technologies
                                                                                Trends and benefits in cost, PCB area, component count, and current consumption
                                                                                Communications engine function interface between the core RF transceiver and the DSP/L1 interface

State-of-the-art RF architectures and the rationalization of the partitioning of the communications engine, with focus on multiband, EDGE-capable designs, are initially described. Integration possibilities that stem from such partitioning and the migration towards a universal RF/DSP digital data interface and SW radio, along with the associated technical challenges, are also discussed.
