at the transistor level, with a focus on IC implementations, mainly

in CMOS. Throughout, there is a strong emphasis on intuitive de-
sign methods to complement analytical tools, so circuit performance
is evaluated by both hand calculations and computer simulations. Be-
ginning with the history of radio, an examination of RLC networks
follows, together with a study of IC components. Both narrowband
and broadband high-frequency amplifiers are studied next, including
a variety of bandwidth-extension tricks. The subject of noise is in-
troduced, and the design of front-end circuits is examined. Classical
controlconceptsarebrieflyreviewedandcombinedwithapresentation
on phase noise to allow a treatment of oscillators, phase-locked loops
and frequency synthesizers. A study of RF power amplifiers follows,
and the course concludes with an overview of transceiver design.
