Abstract—A novel planar monopole antenna with a very
low profile (antenna height less than 0.04 times the operating
wavelength in the free space) and capable of multiband operation
is proposed. The proposed antenna has a planar rectangular
radiating patch in which a folded slit is inserted at the patch’s
bottom edge. The folded slit separates the rectangular patch into
two subpatches, one smaller inner subpatch encircled by the
larger outer one. The proposed antenna is then operated with
the inner subpatch resonating as a quarter-wavelength structure
and the outer one resonating as both a quarter-wavelength and
a half-wavelength structure. The proposed antenna, 12 mm in
height and 30 mm in width has been constructed, and the obtained
bandwidths cover the global system for mobile communication
(890–960 MHz), digital communication system (1710–1880 MHz),
personal communication system (1850–1990 MHz), and universal
mobile telecommunication system (1920–2170 MHz) bands. Details
of the proposed design and obtained experimental results are
presented and discussed.

By introducing an extended conductor line to a rectangular meander
monopole, a novel compact dual-frequency monopole antenna is
proposed. The proposed antenna is fed using a 50 R CPW transmission
line, is printed in a single metal layer, and therefore is easily
constructed. The designed antenna can operate at 900 and 1 SO0 MHz
bands and provide sufficient bandwidths for the GSM and DCS
systems, respectively.

ABSTRACT: Two internal antennas for GSM/DCS and WLAN operations
printed and integrated on a dielectric substrate for application in
a dual-network PDA phone are presented. The two integrated antennas
are printed PIFAs mounted at the top edge of the main circuit board of
the PDA phone, and the isolation behavior of the two antennas with
various possible arrangements is studied. The optimized isolation between
the two antennas is analyzed. Over the GSM, DCS, and WLAN
bands, good isolation (less than 20 dB) between the two integrated

ABSTRACT: A planar meander-line antenna consisting of three branch
strips for very-low-profile GSM/DCS/PCS/WLAN triple-band operation
of mobile phones is presented. The branch strips are designed to operate
as quarter-wavelength structures at 900 and 1800 MHz, respectively,
and the obtained impedance bandwidths cover the required bandwidths
of the GSM (890–960 MHz), DCS/PCS (1710 –1880/1850–1990 MHz),
and WLAN (2400–2484 MHz) bands. The proposed antenna is 46.5 mm
in width and 11 mm in height, and can be mounted on top of a mobile
phone with a small distance of 2 mm to the ground plane, thus resulting
in a very low profile of 13 mm (less than 4% of the wavelength at 900
MHz) from the ground plane for the proposed antenna in practical applications.
The measured antenna-radiation patterns are approximately
omnidirectional at the three resonant frequencies. Peak antenna gains
for operating frequencies across the GSM/DCS/PCS/WLAN triple bands
are measured to be 1.1, 1.6, and 1.2 dBi, respectively, with gain variations
