As part of the landmark project to deliver the first KPI-compliant UMTS network in Africa to Vodacom, South Africa’s leading cellular network, Siemens Communications has partnered with their counterpart in 4G Technology and wireless network performance engineering solutions provider Actix. UMTS post processing software and solutions integration services will be incorporated into the network for launch on 1 December 2004.
As part of the company’s commitment to hand over the network to Vodacom in less than three months following the awarding of the contract, Siemens Communications chose to use the Actix UMTS solution for time and engineering resource savings.
Pete da Silva, CEO of Siemens Communications, says with the pressure to deliver Africa’s first UMTS network in a short time frame, the organisation follows standard procedure in drawing on global best practice in solutions and services to deliver a technologically superior, turnkey telecommunications solution.
“As Actix is one of Siemens Germany’s recommended suppliers and we have had experience with the company’s solution in rolling out 2G networks, their existing software offering enables us to save development time and meet our commitment to deliver a high quality UMTS network to Vodacom in only a few months,” says da Silva. |
