Abstract—We present a concept for implementing MIMOOFDM
in real time on a hybrid FPGA/DSP software-radio
platform. The OFDM parameters are similar to the 802.11a
and HiperLAN/2 standards. A new preamble is defined for
the channel estimation, to identify the transmit antennas at
each receiver, using a code-multiplex approach. This
preamble allows precise channel estimates and needs little
hardware effort. Three methods to increase the channel
tracking rate at the receiver are discussed and we argue that
a combination of them may be suitable for a wide range of
mobility scenarios. Most recently, the implementation is
finished and the system is operated in real-time over the air.
