Well, let me make the conclusions.
Regarding the risks related with electrostatics, there is two ways it can make impacts on electronic devices and lead to damage or reliability issues.
Firslty, the discharge of electrostatics (also called ESD) which could lead to current flow within the circuitry of devices so that device failure may be induced. This is the majority cases where electrostatics makes electronics devices failures.
Secondly, some devices are field sensitive. That is to say, if devices are exposed to a high electrostatic field, device could be damaged even if there is no discharge events. SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) component is just this type.
