【简 介】:WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is the trade name for a group of wireless technologies that emerged from the IEEE 802.16 WirelessMAN (Wireless Metropolitan Area Network) family of standards. Although the term WiMAX is only a few years old, 802.16 has been around since the late 1990s, first with the adoption of the 802.16 standard (10-66GHz) and then with 802.16a (2-11GHz) in January 2003. Despite the establishment of the 802.16a standard, the FWA (fixed wireless access) market has never really taken off; although it is worth noting that during this time period the overall telecommunications industry was struggling.
