6. L23
Firstly, a brief description of the different layers which constitute the layer 2 and the layer 3, namely L23, of the mobile station protocol stack. It is also intended to offer an overview of the intersystem interface of L23. The L23 are used to define the functionality of the GSM/GPRS/EDGE protocols for interfaces. It should be noted that this fact is that the GSM/GPRS/EDGE specifications are normative when used to describe the functionality of interfaces, but the subdivision of L23 layers do not imply or restrict any implementation.
The L23 consists of sets of entities. Each entity has one or more service assess points (SAPs), over which the entity provides a service for the upper entity. The entity is a set of procedures which executes the functions of a layer, also see Figure 10.
